FAQ

  • 1. How much does it cost?
    • Since classes are customized to your needs, the cost can vary. Novices can take the introduction class, which is 4-5 hours long, with both classroom and range time, for $100. For experienced individuals needing a skills refresh or more complex drills, lessons are $25 per hour with a minimum of two hours per lesson.
  • 2. What type of classes do you offer?
    • I teach individuals or small groups, with lessons customized to your experience level and personal goals. I’m certified to instruct for pistol, rifle, and shotgun.
  • 3. How many students attend per session? Single students, couples, or small groups can attend.
  • 4. I have no experience at all, and I’m a little nervous—what’s covered for beginners?
    • We create a secure, understanding, and patient environment, which helps you gradually become more comfortable. Most even find enjoyment exploring possibilities.
    • The process begins with education on safety, mechanics, and marksmanship. You get to hold a firearm and manipulate it to become familiar with it.  We talk about how it sounds and how it feels before we get to the range so you know what to expect.
  • 5. Where do you offer classes? I instruct from my home or at a nearby gun range.
  • 6. Do I need my own firearm to attend your intro?
    • You do not need to have a pistol for the intro class. I will lend you one of mine for the additional cost of the ammunition only.
  • 7. How long is the CHP class?
    • North Carolina requires a fixed curriculum for the Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP) class, which takes 8.5 hours.
  • 8. Why should I take the CHP class?
    • Taking the CHP class ensures you understand NC laws pertaining to handguns. It also provides reciprocal agreements with other states for smoother travel. Additionally, having education about firearms can help you qualify for self-defense legal partner discounts.
  • 9. Do I need experience to take CHP?
    • While some commercial ranges that offer the CHP course don’t require prior experience, in my own practice, my students understand the basics and can pass the required course of fire.
  • 10. Where can I practice shooting?
    • You can practice at a local indoor gun range or outdoors at a county range. Please note that indoor ranges may offer lessons, but county ranges typically do not. You might also be able to join a private club.
  • 11. What is your refund / cancellation policy?
    • We can accommodate up to 2 requests to reschedule an appointment, all fees are non-refundable.
